Character Plot:
JOE KELLER, 55–65, A self-made businessman and the patriarch of the Keller family. Joe is warm and affable on the surface, but underneath lies a man capable of moral compromise to protect his family and business. His charm masks a growing sense of guilt and denial.
KATE KELLER ("Mother"), 50–60, Kate is loving but deeply haunted by the loss of her son Larry, refusing to believe he is dead. She is perceptive, superstitious, and emotionally manipulative when threatened.
CHRIS KELLER, Late 20s to mid-30s, Joe and Kate’s surviving son. A veteran of World War II, Chris is moral and hopeful, yearning to live a life of truth and responsibility. He is in love with Ann but conflicted by loyalty to his family.
ANN DEEVER, Mid to late 20s, Formerly Larry's sweetheart, now in love with Chris. Ann is direct, honest, and emotionally mature beyond her years. She comes to the Keller home with hope for the future.
GEORGE DEEVER, Early to mid-30s, Ann’s older brother. Once friendly with the Kellers, now bitter and disillusioned. A lawyer who seeks justice for his imprisoned father. George is torn between loyalty and anger.
DR. JIM BAYLISS, 35–50, The Kellers’ neighbor. A doctor with a sharp wit and philosophical edge. Jim is a realist, frustrated by the compromises of his own life.
SUE BAYLISS, 30–45, Jim’s wife. A woman who values security and comfort. Sue resents the idealism that threatens her lifestyle. She is blunt, jealous, and cutting when threatened.
FRANK LUBEY, 30–40, A neighbor and amateur astrologist. Frank represents the kind of blind optimism that comforts Kate.
LYDIA LUBEY, 25–35, Frank’s wife. A young mother, content with domestic life. Lydia embodies traditional female roles of the post-war era.
BERT, 8–10 (looking to cast a little older to play younger), A neighborhood boy who plays a game with Joe Keller, pretending to be a police officer.
