Course Descriptions
Music--Our vocal music classes give elementary through high school aged students an opportunity to perform and compete while learning vocal technique that will expand and improve the voice while protecting the vocal instrument. The groups are divided by age and skill level and will perform and compete in a variety of venues and competitions both locally and nationally. These vocal group classes will focus on singing in the musical theater style, with dedicated time for music instruction, basic music theory, vocal health, and vocal technique. Classes are centered around preparation and performance of the groups’ musical theater songs that they will bring to competitions and events. Instructor: Elizabeth Larue Post
Acting 1 (younger students) -- Students will learn how to read, analyze, and perform scenes and monologues. Students will also learn what it means to move, act, and speak like a character. We will not only work on competition pieces but also on communication skills and character development. Instructor: Jayden Parsons
Acting 2 (older students) -- The FUNdamentals of Acting is a course designed to teach the basic skills and techniques actors use to create a believable performance. It will provide a foundation for aspiring actors and those interested in exploring the craft. By utilizing various learning methods such as scene work, monologues, instruction, activities, games, and a performance showcase, we will cover a multitude of topics during the year with an emphasis on script analysis, character development, voice, movement, emotion, conflict, expression, and stage presence. Instructor: Mark Burdette
Movement for Musical Theater (all ages combined class) -- Movement will look different from previous years. This year, movement will be more than just a dance class. In movement, students will focus on how to move as a character, basic (yet important) dance moves, and movements all performers should know. Each class will include stretching, movement exercises (not workouts), character work, and dance. Instructor: Jayden Parsons
